Steel production is edging up
The World Steel Association said global crude steel production in July totalled 130 million tonnes, up 2 percent from the same month a year earlier.
Nearly half of that steel — 61.7 million tonnes — was produced in China, a rise of 4.2 percent. Japan produced 9.3 million tonnes, up 1.2 percent. Steel production in the United States increased slightly to 7.4 million tonnes, while Sweden’s production fell 40.7 percent to 162,000 tonnes.
