A miner’s best friend
Ginny is the world’s first mine search and rescue dog trained in both underground and open cut coal rescues.
She was introduced by U.S. coal miner Alpha Natural Resources at the 2012 National Search and Rescue Conference in Nevada, USA, in June.
While dogs are commonly used in applications including disaster, wilderness, avalanche and drowning search and rescue, their presence in the mining industry has been virtually nonexistent.
